Rust & Rose - Original A4 

Rust & Rose is inspired by my long-standing love of foxes and the fascination I have always had with these beautiful, intelligent creatures. I have always felt that foxes are deeply misunderstood, often described as sly or mischievous, when to me they represent something much more interesting: curiosity, intelligence and a deep connection to nature.

For this painting, I wanted the fox to be the clear heart of the artwork. I chose to leave space around the figure, allowing its expressive face and upward-looking gaze to remain the main focus. The soft rose-pink background creates a gentle, almost dreamlike atmosphere, while the rich rust, copper and warm brown tones of the fox give the painting its earthy character.

Alongside the more detailed gouache painting of the fox, I have incorporated some of my usual abstract elements. Layered blues, turquoise and expressive marks create a sense of movement and contrast beautifully with the warmth of the fox. The rounded forms in the foreground and simple black botanical shape add further texture and visual interest, while the loose marks and unexpected colour combinations give the piece a contemporary feel.

Created entirely by hand, this is a one-of-a-kind original artwork. This artwork will never be recreated, however Kate Roylance Art reserves the right to use this piece in prints, unless otherwise specified with the buyer.
